Xmas Celebrations with Kids, Sweaters to all














Team Mission5 celebrated Christmas Day with children at Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe on 25th Dec 2010. During the day-long Christmas preparation workshop on 24th Dec kids made a beautiful Christmas crib and decorated it with LED lights.

On the special day, a life size Santa Claus made a surprise appearance on a bicycle, danced and distributed chocolates to kids on the way to the orphanage, and the kids at KAMMS.

Santa was also able fulfill the wishes of all the kids - kids received gifts and goodies like dresses, toys, dolls, bat, stars etc., stuffed in the stocking.
Then followed the special Christmas gift to all 32 kids at orphanage - sweaters. Kids were delighted to receive the gifts and danced till late evening with Santa.

Kids were treated with chicken biryani, shrikhand, raita, sabji for lunch, and momos and cake for snacks.

The event concluded by singing Christmas carols, prayers and a speech by a paster.

ACTIVITIES REPORT OF NOVEMBER 2010 :

‘MISSION 5’ ACTIVITIES :-
1. DiWALI CELEBRATIONS – ‘MISSION 5’ SPECIAL :-
- Team Mission5 hosted Diwali celebrations with much aplomb at Shree Shirdi Vrudhashram & Home for Mentally Retarded, Kithigannur.
- Children from Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe, Parvatinagar visited the elderly home the first time and interacted with the elderly members.

- On the auspicious occasion, elderly members, kids and M5 volunteers together lit the lamps and greeted each other for good health and prosperity. The celebrations concluded with distributing sweets among all elderly members and children gathered at the old-age home. [5th & 6th Nov 2010]


2. MONTHLY ESSENTIALS TO ORPHANAGE, TUITION FOR KIDS
:-
- Donated essentials such as atta – 5 kg, daal – ½ kg, suji - 1 kg, cooking oil – 2 litres, hair oil – 1 bottle, chili powder – 1 kg, coriander powder – 1½ kg, toothpaste – 1 tube, , washing powder – 2kg, bathing soap - 5 bars, to Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe [KAMMS]. [31st Nov 2010]
- Screened cartoon show - Tom & Jerry at KAMMS. [21st Nov 2010].
- PRAYAS PROJECT – Under this co-curricular development project of Mission5, seven children from KAMMS,studying in English medium schools, are given daily tuition on all major subjects, by an M5 volunteer.

3. A DAY FOR THE LITTLE WONDERS - CHILDREN’S DAY :-
- Team Mission5 celebrated Children’s Day by hosting a Fancy Dress Competition where kids got a chance to shed their usual looks and appear in new avatars ranging from Jhansi ki Rani to Koli fisherfolk community, Adivasi to dancing scarecrow and more.

- The special programme concluded with cutting a special cake by kids amidst a host of Mission5 volunteers and patrons from outside the students’ community.


4. AHAR PROJECT - 240 LITRES MILK, FRUITS TO TWO ORPHANAGES :-
- Mission5 provides 4 litres of milk everyday to two orphanages – Jeevitha Anathashram & Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe [KAMMS].
- For all the children at KAMMS, we provide a glass of milk and fruits for snacks on a daily basis.

5. ‘3HELP 1CHILD’ – PAYMENT OF TUITION & TRANSPORT FEES :-
- Paid tuition fees of 7 kids - Merlin, Nagraj, Chandrashekhar, Annapoorna, Sangeeta, Satish and Arjun, studying at St. Anthony's School, Bosconagar.
- Paid transport fees for the month of October 2010 [Rs. 2,500/-] for 13 children from KAMMS studying at St. Anthony's School, Bosconagar. [25th Nov 2010]
- ‘3Help 1Child’, a flagship project of Mission5, supports 32 needy children to go to school by funding all their educational expenses.

6. ‘MISSION 5’ in NEWS:
- The story of Mission5 – a students’ initiative, was chosen as the special section ‘Young Missionaries’ story of the month for November 2010, by TheWeekendLeader.com, a new-age portal on positive journalism.

- Bangalore Mirror, an English tabloid in Bangalore, published the inspirational story of Mission5 – a students’ initiative, transforming lives & exhibiting the potential of youth to effect change with Rs. 5/-, on Nov 22, 2010.

ACTIVITIES REPORT of OCTOBER 2010:


- A 5-day collection programme = 12,712/-

'MISSION 5' ACTIVITIES:-
1. DUSSEHRA CELEBRATION - 'MISSION 5' SPECIAL :-
- Mission5 celebrated the ten-day Dussehra festival with great zeal and traditional fervour with children at KAMMS & the elderly members from Shree Shridhi Vrudhashram & Home for Mentally Retarted, Kithigannur. [16th and 17th Oct 2010]
- Together the volunteers made a 7-foot effigy of Ravana.
- Kids were explained the mythological background of burning the effigy of Ravana as getting rid of ten bad qualities, which are represented by the 10 heads of Ravana.
- The event concluded with distributing sweets distributed among the kids & elderly members.

2. GANDHIGIRI SPECIAL :-
- MISSION 5 celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by hosting the tricolor along with the kids in orphanage KAMMS, [2nd Oct 2010].
- The flag-hosting ceremony was accompanied with the singing of the national anthem, followed by kids paying floral tributes to the Mahatma.
- The ceremony concluded with a short speech on the life and achievements of the Mahatma by one of Mission5 volunteers.

3. 240 LITRES MILK, FRUITS TO ORPHANAGES :-
- Mission5 provides 4 liters of milk everyday to two orphanages - Jeevitha Anathashram & Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe.

- Donated essentials such as cooking oil - 2 litres, chili powder - 1 kg, toothpaste - 1 tube, sujji - 5 kg, turmeric powder - 1 kg, jaggery - 2 kg, washing powder - 2 kg, bathing soap - 5 bars, to KAMMS. [10th Oct 2010].
- Screened Tom and Jerry show at KAMMS. [24th Oct 2010].
- Under PRAYAS, a co-curricular development of M5, 7 children from KAMMS studying in English schools are given daily tuition on all major subjects.

5. DIWALI PREPARATION WORKSHOPS AT ORPHANAGE :-
- Mission5 conducted one-day LAMP PAINTING WORKSHOP with children at KAMMS. [16th Oct 2010].
- Mission5 conducted a one-day LANTERN-MAKING WORKSHOP for children at KAMMS. [23rd Oct 2010].
- Mission5 conducted a one-day FORT-MAKING WORKSHOP for kids at KAMMS. [31st Oct 2010].

A Day for the Little Wonders - Children's Day











As we all know, the 14th of November is celebrated as Children's Day - a day for the little wonders. When we hear the word 'children', the picture we draw in our minds is that of smiling, playful children. But as all know, there many children out there who are not as fortunate as we are.

Millions of children across the globe do not get the love and care they deserve. From those millions, thirty kids have been adopted by this orphanage, Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe, and uncle and aunty, the caretakers, have been working hard to give them proper shelter, upbringing and education.
Let's give a big round of applause to the little wonders and the caretakers.

On this special day, team Mission5 has hosted a FANCY DRESS COMPETITION where the kids will shed their usual looks, customs and appear in new avatars ranging from Jhansi ki Rani to Koli fisherfolk community, Adivasi to dancing scarecrow and more.

Elderly members & kids celebrate Diwali











Team Mission5 hosted the Diwali celebrations with much aplomb at Shree Shirdi Vrudhashram & Home for Mentally Retarded, an old-age home in Kithigannur, on 5th Nov 2010.

For the first time, children from Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe, Parvatinagar [Bangalore] got a chance to visit the elderly home and interact with the elderly members.

On the auspicious occasion, elderly members, kids and M5 volunteers together lit the lamps and greeted each other for good health and prosperity. The celebrations at old-age home concluded with distributing sweets to all the elderly members.

Children were taken back to the orphanage, and given hand sparkles and flower pots. Together the volunteers and children enjoyed the evening amid colorful sparkles and lights.

Dusshera Celebrations - Mission5 Special

MISSION 5 celebrated the festival of Dusshera with great zeal and traditional fervour, with the children from Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe & the elderly members from Shree Shirdi Vrudhashram & Home for Mentally Retarded, Kithigannur. Together the members made a 7-foot effigy of Ravana.

The event concluded with distributing sweets among sweets were distributed among the kids & elderly members.

Lamp Painting Workshop for the Kids




Team Mission5 conducted LAMP PAINTING WORKSHOP at Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samasthe, Parvatinagar, Bangalore on 16th October 2010.
Though the concept of lamp painting was new for the kids, they came up with creative designs and patterns.
The Diwali preparation workshop was thoroughly enjoyed by the children and M5 volunteers.

‘MISSION 5’ ACTIVITIES :-

1. GANPATI BAPPA MORYA – 'MISSION 5' SPECIAL:-

- Team Mission5 celebrated Ganesha Festival with kids at Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe [KAMMS], Parvati Nagar from 11 -15th September 2010.

- The celebrations began with Ganesha Sthapana on 11th Sept. Together children and M5 volunteers put up a small Ganesha idol and did all decorations using bio-degradable materials and reusing solid waste.

- A host of events including mehendi art competitition, rangoli competition, musical evening, musical chair etc., was conducted, among the kids and the volunteers.

- The 5- day celebrations concluded with Ganesh Visarjan, sans colours and drums, attended by all 26 kids and Mission5 volunteers.

4. MEDICAL CHECK-UP, ESSENTIALS AT ORPHANAGE:-


- Donated essentials such as cooking oil – 2 litres, raggi – 2 kg, toothpaste – 1 tube, sujji - 1½ kg, vaseline solution -1 bottle, washing powder – 2 kg, bathing soap - 5 bars, to the orphanage. [5th Sept 2010]

- Celebrated Saraswathi's birthday [one of the kids] by cutting a cake and distributing sweets at the orphanage. [26th Sept 2010]

- Under PRAYAS, a co-curricular development project of Mission5, 7 kids from KAMMS studying in English medium schools are given daily tuition on all subjects, especially English.

A medical check-up was conducted for all the kids at the orphanage. [12th Sept 2010]


5. ‘3HELP 1CHILD’ – PAYMENT OF TUITION & TRANSPORT FEES :


- Paid transport fees for the month of August 2010 [Rs. 2,500/-] for 13 children from Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe studying at St. Anthony's School, Bosconagar.

- Paid annual tuition fees of two children Clarence and Joyce [Rs. 11,400/-] studying at Munishwara, School, Avalahalli, Bangalore-49.

- ‘3Help 1Child’, a flagship project of Mission5, supports 32 needy children to go to school by funding all their educational expenses.


6. ‘MISSION 5’ IMPACT:-


- Kishore, a resident of KR Puram, celebrated his daughter's birthday by offering dinner to the KAMMS family. [20th Sept 2010]

- Ramesh, a resident of KR Puram, celebrated his daughter's birthday by offering snacks and sweets to children at KAMMS. [22nd Sept 2010]

Ganpati Bappa Morya


Team Mission5 celebrated Ganesha Festival with kids at Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe, Parvati Nagar from 11 -15th September 2010.

The celebrations began with Ganesha Sthapana on 11th at the orphanage with children and M5 volunteers putting up a small Ganesha idol and all decorations done using bio-degradable materials.

A host of events including mehendi art competitition, rangoli competition, musical evening etc., was conducted on during the 5-day festival, among the kids and the volunteers.


The events in detail :
1. Ganesh Festival preparation [10th Sept]: Team Mission5 started with the decorations and preparations for the pooja at the orphanage.

2. Ganesh Sthapan [11th Sept]: A small idol of Ganesha, made up of wet mud was put up by the children and the volunteers at the orphanage. The pooja and arthi was attended by kids and volunteers, followed by lunch.


3. Musical Evening [12th Sept]: As part of the festival - musical chair event was organised at the orphanage. The programme was attended by 30 kids from orphanage, 10 women from Jyothinagar village and 10 volunteers of M5. The event concluded with Ganesh pooja and arthi, and distributing prasadam.

4. Rangoli Competition [13th Sept]: A total of 13 groups, comprising of 26 kids and 7 volunteers, were asked to make a design of 2x2 feet using rangoli. The colourful eve concluded with Ganesh pooja and arthi.

5. Mehendi Competition [14th Sept]: As part of this competition, 13 groups of two kids each were asked to create designs using mehendi. The event concluded with Ganesh pooja and arthi.

6. Ganesh Visarjan [15th Sept]: The final day of the 5-day fest saw the distribution of prizes to the winners of all the 3 events. Following, a short speech on importance of Ganesha festival and Lokmanya Tilak's message of unity in society through festival celebration, was given to the kids. Also, the kids were made aware of the motive of bringing out their creativity and doing something new through the celebrations during the 5-day festival.

The Ganesh Visarjan, sans colours and drums, was attended by all 26 kids and 8 M5 volunteers.

MISSION 5 ACTIVITIES :
1. FREE BLOOD-SUGAR CHECK UP AT ELDERLY HOME:-

- Mission5 organized a blood-sugar check-up camp for the elderly members at Shree Shirdi Vrudhashram & Home for Mentally Retarded, Kithigannur. [1st Aug 2010]

- The two-hour long camp offered free blood-sugar check up for a total of 50 elderly members residing in the old-age home.

-The programme concluded with the members advising the elderly members on regular exercise and balanced diet.

2. INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS AT ORPHANAGE:
- Team Mission5 celebrated the 64th Independence Day with children at Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe, Parvatinagar, Bangalore. [15th Aug 2010]
- Both children and M5 volunteers participated in an array of events viz. Prabhat Pheri – sloganeering, flag hoisting and singing national anthem, speech on freedom struggle to the kids and sweets distribution.


- The day-long celebrations ended with a drawing competition among the kids, on the theme of Independence Day, and the winners were given prizes.

3. 2,000 BRAILLE PAPERS TO RAKUM SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND :-

- Donated 2,000 Braille papers to Sri Rakum School for the Blind, Indiranagar. Also a large chunk of old clothes and other items were donated, for reuse & redistribution. [14/08/2010]


4. 200KG RICE, FRUITS TO AN ELDERLY HOME :-

- Donated 200kg rice to Shree Shirdi Vrudhashram & Home for Mentally Retarded, Kithigannur. [28th Aug 2010]

- Distributed fruits to all elderly members at the elderly home. [8th Aug 2010]

5. AHAR PROJECT – DAILY 4 LTRS MILK TO TWO ORPHANAGES :-
- ‘MISSION 5’ provides 4 litres of milk everyday to two orphanages, Jeevitha Anathashrama & Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe. We also provide fruits on a regular basis to kids at KAMMS as a dietary supplement.


6. 25-KG RICE, ESSENTIALS TO ORPHANAGE :-

- Donated 50kg rice to Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe [KAMMS]. [21st Aug 2010]
- Donated essentials such as 10kg atta, 2kg toor daal, ½kg chilli powder, 2kg sugar, 3kg raggi, cooking oil - 2 litres, washing powder – 2kg, to the orphanage. [7th Aug 2010]
- Organized a cartoon show for kids at the orphanage. [22nd Aug 2010]

7. DAILY TUITIONS FOR KIDS AT ORPHANAGE :-
- Under PRAYAS , a co-curricular development project of Mission5, daily tuitions are given to 7 kids from KAMMS, studying in English medium schools.

8. ‘3HELP 1CHILD’ – PAYMENT of SCHOOL FEES OF 10 CHILDREN :-
- Paid annual tuition fees of 9 children [Rs. 20,765/-], Indirapriyadarshani, Durga Prasad, Ranjith, Manjunath, Wani, Kaushalya, Arpitha, Puneet, Ramya, studying at St. Anthony’s School, Bosconagar, Bangalore-49.
- Paid annual tuition fees of Surya [Rs. 5,050/-], a child studying at St. Gaspar’s Vidyalaya, Parvatinagar, Bangalore-49.
- These children are studying under ‘3Help 1Child’ – an educational project of Mission5, funding the educational expenses of 32 needy children for 2010-11 session.

8. ‘MISSION 5’ IMPACT:-
- Ms. Albertina, a Singapore national currently working as a pre-school teacher with Knowledge Universe, responded to our donation box and info chart put up at Cosmos Mall, ITPL Road, Bangalore. [18th Aug 2010]
- In an email to Mission5 on 18th Aug, Albertina expressed her wish to volunteer for our activities, provide foodstuff and items to orphanage and needy families, and help Mission5 get donations from her friends in Singapore.

64th Independence Day Celebrations at Orphanage


Team MISSION 5 celebrated the 64th Independence Day with the children at Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe, Parvatinagar, Bangalore.

Flag hoisting, speech on freedom struggle, sweets distribution, drawing contest among kids are the highlights of the celebrations, participated by M5 volunteers and kids.

Below is the chronological list of the events:
5.15 - 5.30AM : Prabhat Pheri - sloganeering by team M5 from GCC gate till orphanage.
5.30 - 6.30AM : Flag hoisting, singing national anthem, speech on freedon struggle and sweets distribution.
6.30 - 7.00AM : Team M5 returned to GCC gate shouting slogans hailing Mother India.

5.30PM : Conducted drawing competition for children as well as M5 volunteers. Kids were divided into TOM & JERRY groups and the theme was Independence Day.

6.30 - 6.45PM: Results of the drawing contest announced, winners of both groups felicitated with a certificate and tri-colour badge each;

7PM: Ended the day-long celebrations with a crackers show with the kids.

JUNE & JULY 2010 :-

‘MISSION 5’ ACTIVITIES :-
1. ‘3 HELP 1 CHILD’ – FUNDING EDUCATION OF 32 NEEDY CHILDREN :-

- After a two-month long survey we selected 32 underprivileged children from across villages in KR Puram area for the fourth edition [2010-11] of our flagship programme ‘3HELP 1CHILD’, aimed at empowering underprivileged children exercise their ‘Right to Education’.
- UNIFORM, BOOKS, BAGS TO ALL 32 KIDS: Each of the 32 children were provided a set of new uniform, books, bags, water bottle.
- DAILY TRANSPORT FACILITY for kids staying in Parvati Nagar & Jyoti Nagar areas.


2. 45 SAPLINGS PLANTED ON ‘WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY’ :-
- On 5th June, World Environment Day, team Mission5 planted a total of 45 saplings with schoolchildren at St. Gaspar Vidyalaya, Kithigannur, Bangalore.
- The 2-hour event saw participation by 15 Mission5 volunteers, volunteers from St. Gaspar Church, Kithigannur and more than 100 school children.

3. 2,000 BRAILLE PAPERS TO RAKUM SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND :-
- Donated 2,000 Braille papers to Sri Rakum School for the Blind, Indiranagar. Also donated old clothes and other old items. [19 June 2010]

4. 200KG RICE, FRUITS TO AN ELDERLY HOME :-

- Concluded the two-month long summer camp for kids with a Grand Sports Day event, at Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe [KAMMS] on 6th June 2010.
- Conducted fun-filled races like sack hopping, 3-legged race, 200ft race etc.
- Donated essentials such as 10kg atta, 1 ½ kg raggi, cooking oil - 2 litres, surf powder -
2packs, washing soap – 3 bars, bathing soap – 5 bars, coconut oil – 1 bottle
, on two
occasions, to the orphanage. [27th June & 24th July 2010]
- Donated 50kg rice, to the orphanage. [11th July 2010]
- Organised a medical check-up for all kids at the orphanage and provide
d all prescribed
medicines. A session on puberty for all girls of 11-16 yrs. [18th July]
- Donated an iron for all kids to press their school uniform. [25th July 2010]
- Celebrated birthday of Sathish, a kid at orphanage, by cutting a cake. [27th Jun]


7. PRAYAS & UNNATI PROJECTS - FOR KIDS AT ORPHANAGE :-
- PRAYAS PROJECT: a co-curricular development project, an MISSION 5 volunteer gives daily tuitions for 7 kids from KAMMS, studying in English medium schools.
- UNNATI PROJECT: Starting April 2010, MISSION 5 provides a two-hour theory & practical computer classes for 6 children from KAMMS, on weekends.

8. ‘MISSION 5’ IMPACT STORIES :-
- Received contributions worth Rs. 84, 440/- from 30 employees of St Ericsson, Bangalore for ‘3Help 1Child’ - an educational project of M5. [5th –12th July 2010]
- Residents of Shri Ram Samruddhi Society, Bangalore donated old clothes, toys, bags, shoes and two computers for reuse to Mission5 on July 04, 2010.
- Sahya, student from MVJIT College, Bangalore sponsored dinner for all 30 children at the orphanage, on her birthday. [7th July 2010]
