ACTIVITIES REPORT of JUNE & JULY 2010 :-



REPORT for the month of
JUNE & JULY 2010 :-
A 5-day collection program = Rs. 1,04,540/-

‘MISSION 5’ ACTIVITIES :-
1. ‘3 HELP 1 CHILD’ – FUNDING EDUCATION OF 32 NEEDY CHILDREN :-

- After a two-month long survey we selected 32 underprivileged children from across villages in KR Puram area for the fourth edition [2010-11] of our flagship programme ‘3HELP 1CHILD’, aimed at empowering underprivileged children exercise their ‘Right to Education’.
- UNIFORM, BOOKS, BAGS TO ALL 32 KIDS: Each of the 32 children were provided a set of new uniform, books, bags, water bottle.
- DAILY TRANSPORT FACILITY for kids staying in Parvati Nagar & Jyoti Nagar areas.


2. 45 SAPLINGS PLANTED ON ‘WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY’ :-
- On 5th June, World Environment Day, team Mission5 planted a total of 45 saplings with schoolchildren at St. Gaspar Vidyalaya, Kithigannur, Bangalore.
- The 2-hour event saw participation by 15 Mission5 volunteers, volunteers from St. Gaspar Church, Kithigannur and more than 100 school children.

3. 2,000 BRAILLE PAPERS TO RAKUM SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND :-
- Donated 2,000 Braille papers to Sri Rakum School for the Blind, Indiranagar. Also donated old clothes and other old items. [19 June 2010]

4. 200KG RICE, FRUITS TO AN ELDERLY HOME :-
- Donated 200kg rice to Shree Shirdi Vrudhashram & Home for Mentally Retarded, Kithigannur. [31st July 2010]
- Distributed fruits to all elderly members at the elderly home. [25th July 2010]

5. AHAR PROJECT – DAILY 4 LTRS MILK TO TWO ORPHANAGES :-
- ‘MISSION 5’ provides 4 litres of milk everyday to two orphanages, Jeevitha Anathashrama & Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe. We also provide fruits on a regular basis to kids at KAMMS as a dietary supplement.


6. SPORTS DAY, MEDICAL CHECK-UP AT ORPHANAGE :-
- Concluded the two-month long summer camp for kids with a Grand Sports Day event, at Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe [KAMMS] on 6th June 2010.
- Conducted fun-filled races like sack hopping, 3-legged race, 200ft race etc.
- Donated essentials such as 10kg atta, 1 ½ kg raggi, cooking oil - 2 litres, surf powder -
2packs, washing soap – 3 bars, bathing soap – 5 bars, coconut oil – 1 bottle
, on two
occasions, to the orphanage. [27th June & 24th July 2010]
- Donated 50kg rice, to the orphanage. [11th July 2010]
- Organised a medical check-up for all kids at the orphanage and provide
d all prescribed
medicines. A session on puberty for all girls of 11-16 yrs. [18th July]
- Donated an iron for all kids to press their school uniform. [25th July 2010]
- Celebrated birthday of Sathish, a kid at orphanage, by cutting a cake. [27th Jun]


7. PRAYAS & UNNATI PROJECTS - FOR KIDS AT ORPHANAGE :-
- PRAYAS PROJECT: a co-curricular development project, an MISSION 5 volunteer gives daily tuitions for 7 kids from KAMMS, studying in English medium schools.
- UNNATI PROJECT: Starting April 2010, MISSION 5 provides a two-hour theory & practical computer classes for 6 children from KAMMS, on weekends.

8. ‘MISSION 5’ IMPACT STORIES :-
- Received contributions worth Rs. 84, 440/- from 30 employees of St Ericsson, Bangalore for ‘3Help 1Child’ - an educational project of M5. [5th –12th July 2010]
- Residents of Shri Ram Samruddhi Society, Bangalore donated old clothes, toys, bags, shoes and two computers for reuse to Mission5 on July 04, 2010.
- Sahya, student from MVJIT College, Bangalore sponsored dinner for all 30 children at the orphanage, on her birthday. [7th July 2010]

Employees of St Ericsson donate Rs. 84,440/-


Team Mission5 extends heartfelt thanks to the 30 employees of St Ericsson, Bangalore for contributing Rs. 84,440/- for 3Help 1Child - an educational project of M5. The week-long fund-raising programme extended from 5th to 12th July, 2010.

The fund will be used to
pay [part of the total expenses] the admission fee, uniform fees, stationery and other education related expenses of 32 children studying under 3Help 1 Child [2010-11 batch].

MISSION5 IMPACT - Samruddhi Society donates Old Items

Shri Ram Samruddhi Society, Bangalore for donating old clothes, bags, shoes and two computers to MISSION 5 on July 04, 2010. The spirit of giving and donating old items for reuse by the needy, shown by the residents of the Society, is immensely encouraging and exemplary.

The donations have been redistributed among 28 children at an orphanage - Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe, Parvati Nagar, Bangalore, and 9 children studying under our educational project - '3 Help 1 Child'.

3 HELP 1 CHILD [2010-11 batch] :-


Team Mission5 is glad to announce the
4th edition of its flagship project - 3HELP 1CHILD, which aims at helping a group of underprivileged children exercise their RIGHT TO EDUCATION & RIGHT TO CHILDHOOD. The idea is to havea group of 3 people [preferably students] together fund the total education-related expenses of one needy child.

After the successful completion of 3 editions of the educational project, we have come up with the new group of 32 children - identified through a two-month long survey across 6 villages in KR Puram area in Bangalore.

2nd SPORTS DAY at ORPHANAGE



Team MISSION 5 organised the 2nd SPORTS DAY at Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe, on 6th of June [Sunday].

Highlights of the SPORTS DAY are listed below:
- Inaugural speech by Stella, one of the children, studying under our co
mputer awarness programme-UNNATI
- Introduction session between the guests and children [among
guests were Vimala maam & a group of young employees from G7 Tech Solutions of Biocon team]

- Children were divided into 2 groups -
TOM and JERRY
- Conducted fun-filled events like
a) Sack Hopping, b) Jalebi Race, c) 3-legged Race, d) 200ft Race, e) Lemon-spoon Race etc.

- First and second positions were announced for each event and the 2 children were awarded
a mango and a certificate each
-
Saraswati and Ramya [one each from the 2 groups] were chosen the best sportspersons for the 2nd SPORTS DAY. They were rewarded with a medal and a certificate each

- On the occasion team members from G7 Tech
Solutions of Biocon team donated a lunch plate, water bottle and geometry box to each child
- Refreshment was provided to kids throughout the programme by Mission5
- Each guest was gifted
a paper bag [part of our SAY 'NO' TO PLASTIC campaign], made jointly by Mission5 volunteers and the kids at KAMMS.

Report of APRIL & MAY 2010 :

A 5-day collection program = 23,279 + 15,605 = Rs. 38,884/-


‘MISSION 5’ ACTIVITIES :-

1. CHUTTI CHUTTI – SUMMER CAMP FOR KIDS :-

- The two-month long summer camp kicked off with a trip to Banerghatta National Park, Bangalore. A total of 24 kids & 27 volunteers participated. Kids enjoyed the tiger & lion safari, and watching other animals in the zoo.

- ART OF LIVING WORKSHOP: A 5-day special workshop taught kids the benefits of daily yoga and meditation apart from lessons on life skills and empowerment.

- COMPUTER CLASSES [UNNATI PROJECT] : A weekend two-hour session of theory & practical computer classes for 6 kids from KAMMS, was conducted.

- ART & CRAFTS WORKSHOP: A weekend workshop, taught easy techniques in painting, drawing, making greeting cards etc, for all 24 kids at KAMMS.


2. ESSENTIALS, FIRST-AID KIT TO AN ORPHANAGE :-

- Donated essentials like cooking oil – 2 litres, bathing soap – 4 bars, washing powder–2kg to Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe [KAMMS]. [11th April]

- Donated 25kg rice [25th Apr & 16th May] & a first-aid kit. [15th May 2010].

- Celebrated birthday of Manjunath & Chandrasekhar [10th April], and Vireesh [16th April], kids at the orphanage, by cutting a cake & distributing sweets among kids.


3. 2,000 BRAILLE PAPERS TO RAKUM SCHOOl FOR THE BLIND :-

- Donated 2,000 Braille papers to Sri Rakum School for the Blind, Indiranagar. A group of 10 volunteers visited the school on each occasion. [17th April & 1st May]


4. 200KG RICE, FRUITS TO ELDERLY HOME :-

- Donated 200kg rice to Shree Shirdi Vrudhashram & Home for Mentally Retarded, Kithigannur, on two occasions. [18th April & 30th May 2010]

- Distributed fruits to all elderly members to mark the 3rd death anniversary of Muniyamma – a 90-year-old lady under M5 care from 25th Mar – 5th Apr 2010.


5. 4 LITRES MILK EVERYDAY TO TWO ORPHANAGES :-

- As part of AHAR project, ‘MISSION 5’ provides 4 litres of milk everyday to two orphanages, Jeevitha Anathashrama & Kannada A. M. Makkala Samsthe. We also provide fruits on a regular basis to kids at KAMMS as a dietary supplement.


6. PRAYAS – DAILY TUITION FOR KIDS AT ORPHANAGE :-

- As part of PRAYAS – a co-curricular development project, a MISSION 5 volunteer takes daily tuitions for 7 children from Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe, studying in English medium schools.


7. ‘3 HELP 1 CHILD’ SURVEY :-

- The survey to identify deserving children from across villages in KR Puram area to be included in the fourth edition of our flagship programme ‘3HELP 1CHILD’ – an educational project aimed at helping underprivileged children exercise their ‘Right to Education’, is underway, with a deadline of 10th June 2010.

45 saplings planted on World Environment Day










On 5th June, World Environment Day, team Mission5 planted a total of 45 saplings with schoolchildren at St. Gaspar Vidyalaya, Kithigannur, Bangalore.

We began the plantation programme by creating awareness among the kids about the importance of green and healthy environment. The kids responded to our call by saying how bad they feel about the deteriorating state of the environment, and more when they see tress being cut to make houses and roads in the city.

The 2-hour event saw participation by 15 Mission5 volunteers, volunteers from St. Gaspar Church, Kithigannur and more than 100 school kids.

Trip to Banerghatta National Park - 'MISSION 5' Spl







On 4th April 2010, as part summer special programmes, Team MISSION 5 organised a trip to Banerghatta National Park, Bangalore with kids from an orphanage, Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe.

A total of 24 children and 27 volunteers participated in the one-day special programme.

We all thoroughly enjoyed the lion & tiger safari, and watching other animals in the park.

ACTIVITIES REPORT of MARCH 2010 :

  • A 5-day collection program = Rs. 31,642/-

‘MISSION 5’ ACTIVITIES :-

  1. BLOOD DONATION CAMP & PHOTO EXHIBITION :-
  • Team MISSION 5 at SFS College, Bangalore hosted a one-day blood donation camp in association with Vijayanagar Blood Bank on March 13, 2010.
  • The 2nd annual blood donation camp saw active participation by more than 130 students and others, of which 84 qualified for blood transfer. A total of 84 units of blood was collected.
  • DRISHTI 2 The 2nd edition of the annual photo exhibition featured 60 photographs, a journey of activities conducted by MISSION 5 in the last 3 years.
  • Each donor was awarded a certificate & a paper bag with a message – SAY NO TO PLASTIC.
  • The event saw more than double the number of donors in the 1st blood donation camp.

2. 200KG RICE TO ELDERLY HOME:-

  • Donated 200kg rice to Shree Shirdi Vrudhashram & Home for Mentally Retarded, Kithiganur. [21/03/2010]
  • Like all other major occasions, Team MISSION 5 celebrated Holi, the festival of colours with the elderly members at this old age home & distributed sweets. [01/03/2010]

3. 2,000 BRAILLE PAPERS TO RAKUM SCHOOL FOR BLIND :-

  • Donated 2,000 Braille papers to Sri Rakum School for the Blind, Indiranagar.
  • A group of 10 MISSION 5 volunteers visited the school and learnt about Braille script, took training to walk with stick canes for the blind. [20/03/2010]


4. ESSENTIALS TO AN ORPHANAGE, SLIPPERS & CAPS FOR KIDS:-

  • Donated 25kg rice t an orphanage, Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe. [21/03/2010]
  • Donated essentials – 5kg wheat, 1½ kg tur daal, 1kg sugar, cooking oil - 2 litres, bathing soap – 5, washing soap - 5. [07/03/2010]
  • UGADI Celebrations – Distributed fruits & sweets to kids at K. A.M. M. S. [16/03/2010]
  • Donated a cap each to all the 23 children at the orphanage. [31/03/2010]

  • We successfully completed the third edition of our flagship programme ‘3HELP 1CHILD’ – an educational project aimed at helping underprivileged children exercise their ‘Right to Education’.
  • The 3rd year of the project funded the educational expenses of 20 underprivileged children identified from across 8 villages around TC Palya.

‘MISSION 5’ IMPACT:

  • A group of 10 students from MVIT College, Bangalore visited Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe and donated stationery [notebooks, crayons etc] & indoor games [ludo, chess etc].
  • Pooja Mishra, a student from MVIT College, celebrated her birthday at KAMMS by cutting a cake and donating a pair of slippers each to all the 23 kids at the orphanage. [22/03/2010]

Slippers to Kids at Orphanage - Mission5 Impact








On 22 March, 2010, Pooja, a student of MVIT College, Bangalore celebrated her birthday with children at Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe.

A total of 10 students from MVIT College visited the orphanage. We began the celebrations by cutting a cake, singing and dancing with the kids.

Later, each of the 21 kids were gifted a pair of slippers.

We requested the visitors to plan the celebrations of their special occasions with the underprivileged.
