The itinerary of events of the 4th Annual Day celebrations of Team Mission5, on Feb, 02, 2011 is below:
- 10.00am - Volunteers' gathering point near Indus Valley School, TC Palya
- 10.30am - Walk towards St. Anthony's Church
- 11.00am - Distribution of essentials (1 packet of essentials such as rice, raggi, toor dal, soap-1, biscuit - 1 pack and old clothes) to each of the 30 needy people sitting in front of the church. Even Lunch was organised for them over there. [pic 1]
- 12.00 noon - Walk towards old-age home, Shree Shirdi Vrudhashram & Home for Mentally Retarded, in Kithiganur
- 1.00pm - Lunch at old-age home. Songs & dance with the elderly members. [pic 2]
- 2.00pm - 5.00pm - Break for volunteers
- 3.00pm - A group of 6 volunteers visited Sri Rakum School for Blind, Indiranagar to give Mission's annual report to Rakum Sir, founder of the School, and interact with the visually challenged children. He gifted a book on Zen philosophy to each M5 volunteer. [pic 3]
- 5.00pm - Gathering near ATM
- 5.15pm - Walk towards orphanage, Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe [KAMMS], Parvatinagar
- 5.45pm - Celebrations in orphanage begins by cutting a cake. A special Mission5 documentary compiling 4 yrs of service to the needy and an Annual Report of the year 2010-11 was released among all the volunteers [pic 4]
- 7.00pm - Dinner at orphanage with KAMMS family
- 7.30pm - Left orphanage.
- 8.30pm - Cut a cake among Mission5 volunteers. [pic 5]
‘MISSION 5’ ACTIVITIES:-
1. WINTER CLOTHES COLLECTION & DISTRIBUTION :-
- Distributed old winter clothes collected through a drive from students & patrons working with companies: G7 Tech Solutions, ST Ericsson & RAGA Hospitality, among elderly members at old-age home Shree Shirdi Vrudhashram & Home for Mentally Retarded in Kithigannur and orphanage Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe [KAMMS] in Parvatinagar. - The month-long drive helped us reach out to the students’ community and patrons in Bangalore and collect a large number of sweaters, jackets, pullovers, caps, blankets.
2. 125 KG RICE, FRUITS TO AN ELDERLY HOME :-
- Donated 125kg rice to old-age home Shree Shirdi Vrudhashram & Home for Mentally Retarded [SSVHMR] in Kithigannur, on 29th Jan 2011, and donated fruits on 9th Jan 2011.
3. MONTHLY ESSENTIALS TO ORPHANAGE, TUITION FOR KIDS :-
- Donated essentials such as flour – 5 kg, toothpaste – 1 tube, Vaseline lotion – 2 bottles and some vegetable items to Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe [KAMMS]. [23rd Jan 2011]
- Screened cartoon - Tom & Jerry at KAMMS. [2nd Jan & 30th Jan 2011]
- Celebrated birthday of Ramya [6th Jan], Sangeetha [15th Jan] and Prerita’s [28th Jan] by cutting cake at the orphanage.
- PRAYAS PROJECT – A co-curricular development project of Mission5 under which seven children from KAMMS studying in English medium schools are given daily tuition on all major subjects by an M5 volunteer.
3. ‘AHAR PROJECT’ - 248 LITRES MILK, FRUITS TO TWO ORPHANAGES:
- We provide 4 litres of milk daily to two orphanages – Jeevitha Anathashram & KAMMS.
- Children at KAMMS are offered a glass of milk and fruits for snacks, daily.
5. REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS AT ORPHANAGE:
- Team Mission5 celebrated the 62nd Republic Day by hoisting the Indian flag and singing the national anthem with children at Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe, on Jan 26, 2011.
- In the evening, a meeting of parents of all 32 kids studying under '3HELP 1 CHILD’, an educational project of Mission5 funding the education of 32 needy children, was organized.
- We, Team Mission5, also observed 3years of the being recognized as one of the Citizen Hero Initiatives by CNN-IBN for 2008 and the telecast of the story on Jan 26, 2008.
6. KITE-FLYING WITH KIDS – ‘SANKRANTI SPECIAL’ :-
- Team Mission5 celebrated the festival of 'Sankranti' by hosting a kite-flying programme for children at Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe.
- On the occasion, traditional Sankranti sweets were offered to the kids and the volunteers.
7. ‘3HELP 1CHILD’ – PAYMENT OF TUITION & TRANSPORT FEES :-
- Paid tuition fees of 3 kids - Ashwin kumar, Prashanth joseph and Muthu M.B., studying at St. Anthony's School, Bosconagar.
- Paid transport fees for the month of October 2010 [Rs. 2,500/-] for 13 children from KAMMS studying at St. Anthony's School, Bosconagar.
- ‘3Help 1Child’ is a flagship project of ‘Mission5’ which supports 32 needy children to go to school by funding all their educational expenses.
8. ‘MISSION5’ IMPACT :-
- Adv. Sumitra Dutt Choudhary from Delhi celebrated her birthday by distributing sweets and cold drinks among children at KAMMS on 23rd Jan 2011.
- Bhavani, an employee of G7 Tech Solutions donated 10kg rice to SSVHMR on 29th Jan 2011.
- Mrs. Bharathi from KR Puram, Bangalore donated 25kg rice to SSVHMR on 29th Jan 2011.
Ø “Rs. 5/- is all it takes to make that big difference”:
- The inspiring story of Mission5 – a students’ initiative was chosen as the ‘City of Angels’ special story, by The Times of India, Bangalore edition on 3rd Jan 2011.
Ø Team Mission5 received an appreciation mail from Dr. Stephen Ong, ophthalmic surgeon from Australia. He wrote “I recently visited Bangalore from Australia and read about Mission5 in the newspaper. Good luck with your excellent work.”
