DONATE A BRICK: APPEAL TO SUPPORT THE ORPHANAGE RECONSTRUCTION PROGRAM

What more responsible and valuable can we do, other than our monthly events and activities, with the needy was the burning question around the end of January 2011. After much debate and discussion, we, the core team of MISSION 5, reached a consensus that the reconstruction of orphanage Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe, was the need of the hour, and the fitting way to commemorate the completion of 4 years of MISSION 5 - a students’ initiative.

A campaign of supporting needy children and elderly by collecting Rupees 5/- was now taking up a challenge of building a shelter, worth few lakhs.

Amid much enthusiasm and excitement we began with the planning, designing and budgeting of the project, we ardently called, GHARONDA.

Little did we know about the challenges that lay ahead.

The budget for the project, according to initial design and planning, was estimated at Rupees 4 lakhs.

Some changes in the design by the experts to make the structure more spacious and kids friendly, took the budget to Rupees 8 lakhs.

It all began well. During the first phase of fundraising through making presentations, reaching out to patrons and personal contacts, we could raise Rupees 1.07 lakhs - just enough to start with the 1st stage of the construction. The foundation stone was laid and first stage completed. But something was seriously not going well. We could not raise the kind of fund required for the successive stages of the project.

Now it’s time for more serious work. But we lack the required funds.

This post/email is, therefore, an appeal to one and all to donate a brick, support us financially, and join hands in our endeavour to build a modest shelter for the needy children of the orphanage.
