Request for funds - Last stage of Orphanage Reconstruction project

All our dreams can come true – if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney

We had a dream. To build a modest shelter for the needy children of Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe, an orphanage in Parvatinagar, Bangalore-49. The project titled 'Gharonda' (a small nest) was proposed to mark the completion of 4 years of the students' initiative, started in February 2007. From conceiving the concept in February to preparing the proposal to raise funds in March to completing 2/3rd of the project in July, we have a long way.The journey has been full of ups and downs, and challenges and accomplishments. But we never lost hope.

Today, as we step closer to accomplishing our dream of building the orphanage, we are hit with yet another blow. Nonetheless, we are stronger than ever. For now, we only know one thing – our dream will come true, come what may.

We have successfully completed 60% of the project. People from all walks of life, and from places across India have contributed, supported and guied us in this effort. While some danted in cash, in-kind, others asked us to clean their backyard. There were those who donated construction materials and others supported us with useful old items like steel, concrete blocks an so on.

In a nutshell, the project spread in an area of 1800 sqft was divided into two parts –

a) 1200 sqft: consisting of 2 dormetries, 1 kitchen, 1 store room, coridoor & 3/4th of dinning hall.

b) 600 sqft: consisting of 4 toilets, 4 bathrooms, 1 office,1 computer room, water tank, clothes washing place clothes drying place and 1/4th dinning hall

While major portion of the first part is completed and only plastering and flooring is left, construction of 2 bathrooms, computer room, water tank and office are left in the 600 sqft area. And finally, the painting. The cost for the remaining project is estimated at Rs 1,75,000/-.

The break-up cost of the remaining tasks is as follows-

1. Slab construction for 600 sqft -

Gang work - cement pouring – Rs. 4,000/-
