Tree Plantation with Kids - Republic Day Spl
Can there be a better way to celebrate the 60th Republic Day of India than plant trees with children.
Team Mission5 began the day with a FLAG HOISTING programme at an orphanage, Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe.
The ceremony ended with a lecture on the importance of the constitution, and the makers of Indian constitution.
Later in the day we had lunch with the kids at the orphanage.
After a brief discussion on the importance of the day (26th January) to MISSION 5 - the day the efforts of this youth campaign was hailed as one of the CITIZEN HERO INITIATIVES from across India, and telecast on CNN IBN on Jan 26, 2008.
At around 5pm we kicked off the tree plantation drive. Each child was given a pot and a sapling, and was assisted by few M5 volunteers. Each of the 20 children thus had their own sapling, and was assigned the task of taking care of the plant.
Next month we are planning to conduct a pot colouring programme among the kids at the orphanage.

Amazing to see kids do this, in a way securing their own future. I've always been a fan of Tree plantation campaigns and would do anything to promote such events. So here is another NGO doing something like this (http://www.jaagore.com/project/tree-plantation-project), just like i said, i'll do anything to promote events like these :-)
