2. ‘GHARONDA’ – ORPHANAGE RECONSTRUCTION PLANNING BEGINS:
- To mark the completion of 4 years of MISSION 5, we planned to renovate and reconstruct Kannada Adarsha Mahila Makkala Samsthe, one of the two orphanages supported by M5.
- The existing structure of 2 small rooms and a kitchen is very small and crowded for a group of 30 kids to dwell, study and keep their belongings. Lack of proper toilet facility for the growing kids is another serious concern.
- We thus proposed a project to reconstruct a new structure titled “GHARONDA” – meaning a small house or a nest. The planning of the structure is done keeping in mind the earth-friendly, economic and durable aspects.
- The new structure, made using mostly earth bags and other recycled materials, will have separate dormitory for boys and girls, study room, dining room, store room, lavatories and a small space for all kids to assemble.
- The layout plan of the project was finalized by Mr. Mahesh R Bangad, Architect, Faculty, Bhanuben Nanavati College of Architecture [BNCA], Pune on 8th Feb 2011.
